Less famous than its neighbors Menton and Monaco, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, historically called Rocabrua, is where Count Vintimille built a castle in 970 to defend against Saracen invasions.

Initially part of Monaco, Roquebrune was only annexed to France in 1860.

Although all these areas fall under the name Roquebrune, note that the historic village is located a few kilometers from the coastal area. This is important to keep in mind when getting around or choosing accommodation.

To travel from the town center to the medieval village, the best option is to book a private chauffeur. This will spare you the effort of climbing the steep stairways leading from the train station to the old village.
